A business or corporate web site can be a slightly different beast to other non-business related sites.

For instance, most non-business related web sites know their targeted or desired audience.  It's not so difficult to design a site to suit when you are aware of your visitor’s expectations.  On the other hand however, the very nature of business means that you will be attracting a diverse range of visitors from all walks of life, many of whom will have different expectations from your site.   Something to keep in mind whether you are selling insurance, promoting on-line advertising or hoping to inform shareholders - your web site's primary function is to inform.

Well laid out, easily accessible and straight to the point information is the key.  Sure, nice design and a little eye-candy to keep visitors interested is important but if visitors cannot find what they are looking for, they will simply leave your site and go elsewhere for what they are after.  Straight forward menu navigation, linked pages and short relevant bursts of information will keep your visitors on your site.  Time is everything in business and visitors will not be interested in reading page after page of pure text.  Your site should attract and inform the visitor so they will either be sufficiently interested to buy/subscribe directly from your site or alternatively continue their business with you via direct contact generated from the site.   Fortunately, as time progresses, more and more web based business functionality is becoming available and the options to present your information in a clear and well constructed manner are now plentiful.
